Safeguarding

Child protection, vetting and insurance

Written for the person in your school who has to sign something. Short, specific, and it answers the questions in the order they usually get asked.

Children First

Introduction to Children First completed with Tusla in October 2025, covering the Children First National Guidance, child protection procedures and reporting responsibilities under Irish legislation. That sits alongside professional early years experience in Dublin working to the Children First Act 2015 and to Tusla Early Years regulations.

Garda Vetting

Garda Vetting has been completed in Ireland. Vetting here is granted through a relevant organisation rather than carried from one to the next, so the honest position is this: your Board of Management can run its own vetting before the first session. That is expected rather than resisted, and it costs the school nothing.

Insurance and documentation

Public liability insurance is in place, and the certificate goes to your school before a booking is finalised. Vetting confirmation and any other documentation your school requires are provided in writing before the first session. Send us the list your Board of Management works from and it comes back completed rather than partially.

Photographs

No photographs of children are taken during sessions, and no image of a child is used anywhere without the school's own consent process behind it. If your school wants photographs for its newsletter, that runs through your process, not ours.

No private lessons

Little Chess Explorers is deliberately focused on group programmes delivered through schools rather than private one-to-one coaching. Group teaching in a school room, inside school structures and with a school contact, is a clearer arrangement for everyone.

In the room

  • Sessions run in a school room, not in a closed or private space.
  • Groups of seventeen or more, and groups with additional support needs, are agreed in advance so supervision suits the actual group rather than being assumed.
  • Any child protection concern is acted on the same day, following the school's own child safeguarding statement and the reporting requirements of the Children First Act 2015. That includes telling the school's Designated Liaison Person. Telling the school does not replace a report to Tusla where the threshold for one is reached.

Anything else your school needs

Schools have their own onboarding paperwork and it varies. Send yours to [email protected] and it gets completed before a first session rather than after.
